eSafety’s role under the Online Safety Act
Creating a safe environment for our users is a top priority for Twitch. We share this commitment with safety partners, non-governmental organizations around the world, and regulators, including Australia’s eSafety Commissioner.
The eSafety Commissioner is Australia’s independent regulator for online safety, tasked with helping safeguard all Australians from online harms and promoting safer, more positive online experiences. eSafety achieves this by implementing and enforcing Australia’s Online Safety Act. Learn more about the Online Safety Act here.
Reporting online harm to eSafety
eSafety can help Australian users deal with serious online abuse or illegal and restricted online content. You can report a complaint about cyberbullying, adult cyber abuse, image-based abuse (sharing, or threatening to share, intimate images without the consent of the person shown) or illegal and restricted online content to eSafety directly here.
Reporting online harm to Twitch
If you come across content on Twitch that you feel has violated Twitch’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, you can file a report through our in-service User Report Tool, which is available on web and mobile and can be used to initiate a report directly from the content you are trying to report. For detailed instructions and screenshots of the reporting process, please see our How to File a User Report help page here.
Reports are reviewed by our global Safety Operations team who work 24/7/365 to ensure a swift response. You can always contact us here with any questions or concerns about our handling of reports.
Appealing Report Decisions
When you submit a report using Twitch’s User Report Tool, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a reference number. Once we have made a decision on your report, we will notify you of our decision by email. If you would like to appeal our decision on your report you can appeal by submitting another report against the same user. In the “Tell Us More” section, you must include the reference number for the original report, as well as any additional information you believe we should consider in reviewing your appeal. Appeals without the required reference number will not be processed. Note that only Australian users may appeal our decisions on their reports and reporter appeals will not be processed if filed from outside Australia.
Once we have made a decision on your appeal, we will send you an email informing you of our decision.
Twitch’s compliance with the Online Safety Act
Twitch takes its obligations to comply with the Online Safety Act seriously. If you are an Australian user with concerns about Twitch’s compliance with the Online Safety Act, you can report it here. After submitting your complaint, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a reference number. We will review your complaint and notify you of the outcome.
Referring Complaints to eSafety
If you have raised concerns with us and we are unable to resolve them or you are dissatisfied with how they were handled, we will refer the matter to the eSafety Commissioner.
